His Majesty's Government have duly considered the protest conveyed in your note of the 3rd ultime against the action of the authorities at Hong Kong in making a search of the dwellings of Messrs. Cavero and Layseca, and of the local Peruvian Consular offices.

They recognize that the authorities acted in error in this matter, and I have the honour to request that you will convey to the Peruvian Government an expression of their regret that the archives and official papers of the Consulate were violated.
